100% of all proceeds benefit the

Leaps & Bounds Equine Facilitated Therapy Center

This is going to be an extraordinary day.  Starting at 8:00 am we will have food and coffee available onsite, and get going early with lower level classes.  (Pastries and coffee are included in the VIP area by the way, so hurry up and buy your tickets because although they are only $40 in advance and $50 day of, they are limited to the FIRST 50 SOLD!)  Starting at 10 am The Kid Corral will be in our Round Pens and will feature Pony Rides, a Petting Zoo, and more (each for a small donation to Leaps & Bounds.)

After lunch the fun really gets started (DID I SAY LUNCH?  Onsite food available from some fantastic portable food services!) with all of the "Gymkhana Classes."  Get ready to buy some Raffle Tickets too, because we will have them available for some great raffle prizes (your choice -- drop as many tickets as you like into the bag of the items you like best.)  $1 each, 12 for $10, or 25 for $20.  Feeling hot?  That's ok, because you can sit in the shade in the VIP tent ... as long as you bought tickets in advance, of course!

By late afternoon the fun classes have ended and wine tasting, beer, and jello shots (for sale by the Golden Gate Gay Rodeo Association East Bay Chapter) will all be in full swing.  You will now get a chance to watch a demonstration of the incredible Leaps & Bounds Equine Assisted Therapy Program (possibly from the VIP tent with wine tasting glass in hand?), as well as peruse your brochure of the entries in the $1000 Gamblers Choice Jumping Calcutta.  What's that?  That's right!  You will be able to pick your favorite Horse / Rider combination and place a "bet" on whether you think they can jump the highest and the fastest in the allotted period of time.  Guess right?  You win your share of the jackpot!  Guess wrong?  That's ok, because all of it goes to fund the Therapy Program anyway!

Keep your eyes right here for updates, because as we get closer we will have an updated timeline and schedule.  Meanwhile, be sure to get your Horse Show entries in, pre-purchase your VIP tickets, and mark your calendar for an event that will be extraordinary for everyone!

The Mission of Leaps & Bounds is to provide and promote effective horse-assisted therapies and sports activities to strengthen the bodies, minds, and spirits of children and adults with disabilities and to inspire and train others to do the same.

The program offers an opportunity for this population to experience improvement in physical function, social function, and horsemanship.  While carried by and interacting with the highly trained therapy horses, effective therapy is provided, and horsemanship is taught in a variety of novel and adventurous ways to those children and adults otherwise bound by limited opportunities.

The Leaps & Bounds Equine Facilitated Therapy Center is a Pilot Project of the Headlands Foundation 501(c)3 68-0372707

What is a "Gambler's Choice Jumping Calcutta?"
The day concludes with the grand finale, the "Gambler's Choice Jumping Calcutta" which will feature extremely exciting, technical, high speed horse jumping at heights up to 4'6".

At the beginning of the Calcutta, all horse/rider pairs will parade for the spectators, and bio's will be read.  One by one their names will be drawn out of a hat, and Calcutta spectators will have an opportunity to bid on different horse/rider combinations in a live auction format.  Winning bids will then "own" that horse/rider for the event!  After all pairs have been auctioned off, all Calcutta money will go into a pot.  If your pair wins the jumping contest, then you win 20% of the entire pot.  So for example, if there are 15 horses in the Calcutta and they are auctioned off for an average of $500 each, then the "pot" will be $7500.  If your horse wins, then you would win $1500 from the pot and $6000 would go to Leaps & Bounds.  Spectators are allowed and encouraged to pool their money with friends in order to have the highest amount of money to bet on their choice horse/rider combo in the live Calcutta auction!  All bids and donations are 100% tax deductible.

The course itself will consist of a mixed variety of jumps ranging from 3'3" tall to 4'3" tall and wide.  Each jump is assigned a point value.  For example, a lower easier jump would be worth 5 points, while a higher more difficult jump could be worth 25 points.  There is no set path through the jumps -- rather, in a 90 second time frame, riders design their own route to try and accrue as many points as they can.  Each jump may be jumped either direction, and each jump may only be jumped a maximum of two times.  Points accrue after a jump is successfully jumped.  A knock down or a refusal does not count for any points, although there is no other penalty.  Once riders have run out of time a whistle will be blown.

At that point, they have 20 seconds to decide whether or not they will attempt a single fence marked "Joker Jump."  The "Joker" will be the most difficult jump on course, and successful jumping of it within 20 seconds will result in 100 bonus points.  But riders beware!  A knock down or a refusal will result in LOSING 100 points!

As Calcutta entries are confirmed their names will be posted here so you can start planning NOW on who you want to "own" for the Gambler's Choice Jumping Calcutta!
