At
Leap of Faith Farms we offer a comprehensive, in-depth approach to teaching
riding lessons. Our horses are all carefully selected, quality animals
who receive top-notch care and feeding, and our instructors are hand-picked
experts who have a wealth of experience and information to share with
you. Our hope is that you will not simply learn to ride, but that you
will gain actual horsemanship through your experience here.
We
begin lessons at five years of age, and we also teach all levels of adult
riders. Absolute beginners of all ages and all young children will be referred
to our Western instructor Kelly Barnes (even if they would like to ride
English) until they have acquired the basic fundamentals of riding; after
that point, we will gladly incorporate them into English riding lessons if they
desire OR they may continue to develop more advanced Western skills.
All
students are required to purchase an approved hard hat (prices range from $40
to $450) and boots with heels ($30 to $500) These items assist not only with
your safety but also with your comfort while riding.
All riding lessons are $75; you can pre-pay for a package of
10 for $700. The $75 applies to private, semi-private, or group lessons
equally. Private lessons will generally last 30-45 minutes, while
semi-private and groups generally last 45-60 minutes. The length of the
lesson will vary depending upon rider stamina and experience level, as well as
the successful conclusion of the day’s objectives.
Riders
cannot demand particular horses or particular instructors, nor can they ask for
only private lessons. Well-rounded students need to experience a variety
of horses and teachers in order to develop into the best possible riders, and
while we can try to accommodate requests, the only way to guarantee a
particular horse or a particular teacher is to purchase your own horse and
graduate into full training. Please let us know when you are ready to
consider this step and we will gladly help you find the best first horse for
you!
Riders
are expected to arrive 15-20 minutes before their assigned lesson time and
remain afterwards an additional 15-20 minutes in order to groom and care for
their horse, saddle & bridle them, and clean and put away tack.
Beginners will initially be assisted, but after they have learned they will be
expected to do this on their own every time they ride. Riders should never mount the horse until their
instructor checks the horse’s tack first!
